Message From OISF’s President, Kelley Misata

Over the summer and into the fall, OISF’s leadership team and Board have been taking a close look at how we work with our Consortium members and how we can strengthen those partnerships. Some of the changes may feel like big shifts, others subtle enhancements to how we’ve always operated. With the release of Suricata 8, we’re reminded of just how critical this project is—not a handout, but a vital line item that keeps networks secure. At SuriCon, we’ll share updates on refinements to membership levels, benefits, and engagement that underscore Suricata’s value and make the case for open source unmistakable.

Looking ahead, and thanks to the renewed support of our members, we’re also preparing to expand our development team. These new hires will help us connect with you more often, accelerate the roadmap, and keep Suricata strong for the global community. I look forward to sharing more in Montreal—see you there!

Message From Suricata Lead Developer, Victor Julien

While most users are still exploring upgrading to Suricata 8, the dev team and members of our community have already started to work on the upcoming Suricata 9. The main branch in our git repository has now switched to be the 9.0.0 development branch, with a newly created main-8.0.x for the 8.0.x series. We’re still very early in the 9 development cycle, with current plans for a final release being in June/July 2027. In the coming months we’ll be spending time in the team, with our consortium members, and with the broader community to define what we want the next major installment of Suricata to become. SuriCon in Montreal will be a great opportunity to join that conversation and influence the roadmap. Hope to see you there!
